Crime Awareness
6/28/10 Attempted purse grabbing at Hope & Cushing Sts.
The 17 year-old Hispanic male suspect was not apprehended at the scene. Please be
aware of safety measures this summer.
6/2/10 Burglaries on East Side
There have been 2 reported burglaries that have taken place within the last couple of weeks on Prospect and Hidden Street and also on Congdon Street (Memorial Weekend). These have taken place during the day when occupants are in the home. Computers have been taken. These dwellings are multi and single family units. Please be sure your doors are locked at all times, especially in multi-family homes, and be aware of (and don't hesitate to report) any suspicious activity. Double-check that windows and storms are locked and secure, don't leave valuable items or electronics in plain view (i.e. computers near open windows), and draw your blinds at night - all a thief is looking for the room with the "blue glow" at night to know which room to hit the next day. If you are leaving for vacation, tell your neighbors and have someone checking in on your home consistently.

Providence Police Department
One of the items on the CHNA agenda is to bring more awareness of neighborhood safety measures. As we move further into the year, we will be providing more services and information. We are currently at the start of our project.
Be sure to take steps to keep your home safe while you are away. Keep doors locked at all times, whether you are home or away. If you have an alarm, use it! If you need a tutorial, contact your security alarm company and have a serviceman take you through. Let your neighbors know you are away – have one of them pick up your papers, park in your lot, keep an eye out for packages or any uncommon occurrences. Use a timer to coordinate lights whether home or away. Can anyone look right into your home office or at your big screen tv? Top down blinds can be a good investment, but even the cheapest blinds to give some coverage can provide you with a deterrent for theft.
